Reasons to be cheerful

After such a glum post this morning, I thought I should redress the balance as we are both feeling brighter.

Dose 8 was better than dose 7 and Quent was back to just one shot of pethidine. We are waiting for dose 9 now. Quent is feeling a bit knocked about, but looks better than he did in the night. He is now off the oxygen. Side effects include yellow, tingly hands and nasty thrush in his mouth. I have been told to avoid kissing him. :o(

He's clearly not himself. It's hours since he suggested a romp in the bathroom might be possible and he has slept for much of the day. A good choice if your wife is singing along to the Sound of Music.

We have limited visitors for obvious reasons. We have however enjoyed seeing:

Duncan and Helen: Quent's brother and sister-in-law.
Andy Wade: a friend from nursery, primary and secondary school days Quent hadn't seen for over 20 years.
Philip: Another IL-2 patient who came down the corridor to give us some encouragement. His last scan showed his tumours to have totally disappeared, so he is having his "top up" / one for luck. It was great to meet a success story - and a lovely man.

Tomorrow we will have a VIP visitor. Dr Savage is coming up to see how it all works and how Quent is doing. We are both looking forward to seeing him and the nurses are all primed to show him around.

Thinking about you throughout, thanks for the updates Helen!
Fingers crossed that Quentin will be the guy with the success story going round to other patients next.

Message from Helen L who says how much did you have to pay Dr Savage to get Quent up north so that you wouldn't get dragged into the huge Scout jamboree? Helen is in Cheshire and is too 'posh to post'so I am doing it for her. Nah, only joking. She doesn't have internet except for 'read only' on John's blackberry. She sends you both her love and best wishes xxx

Hello my lovelies. So proud you've got so far through already; it's all been a whirlwind. Quent don't go firking with your wife (however lovely she might be) or fxxxxxx with any wires for fun either. We want you to conserve your energy and not frying yourself. Sounds like you're doing really, really well and it's great to hear about the other guy there who is proof it's so worthwhile. Keep up the good work, thinking of you lots, love JC and Jase xxx

Said the nurse: "It's only a fluke, 'n
The result of the drug Interleuken;
So when your teeth chatter,
It really don't matter.
By the way, here's a bucket to puke in."

Hang in there Quentin.

You are both an absolute inspiration not only to each other but to the rest of us as well. I bet those nurses have never spent so much time getting tarted up to come on shift!! You both, even if you don't feel it, are to us still in great humour and you are probably now over the half way hurdle. We are all rooting for you and thinking of you constantly, that you don't have to doubt. Thanks Helen for keeping us all updated through such a tough and personal time. You are wonderful.

With love and positive vibes from the O'Donovan's xxxxxx

Hi both,

We've been following the treatment with a mixture of awe, fascination and terror. Q is facing the physical challenge wth immense resolve and bravery, and H is doing sterling work supporting him all the way.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
