Checking into the Priory

Sorry for the long delay in posting. Let me explain…

First things first. Quent’s operation went well on Friday. Thankyou for your kind thoughts and concerned texts wondering why I have not updated the blog. He started his “get out quick” campaign as soon as he arrived at Charing Cross. Mr Christmas had told us he would be out on Sunday but at 9.50am on Saturday Quent rang to tell me he was ready to come home. We went back to the Doctor’s yesterday to have the dressing changed and the wound is “weepy”, so we need to go back again today. But overall, it’s been a success and we have no further surgery planned.

The operation was exactly seven weeks after the previous one. During that time we had the bathroom redone, we moved house, Oakley started a new school and I finished a big work project. It’s been a busy time.

If this sounds a bit crazy, you will be amused to hear that the new house is called The Priory. Rickmansworth, not Roehampton. The delightful previous owners lived here for 63 years and described it as a magical place. It’s a 16th Century listed building - full of character, with a beautiful garden, a garage and a workshop. Everything we dreamed of and more. We keep bumping into people we know who enthusiastically tell us they looked at it – and rejected it as far too much work!

We are loving it. Oakley has created two dens in the garden, learned to climb trees and turned the window seats into pirate ships, with the curtains as sails and our visitors as crew. I potter about in the garden and poor Quent is itching to do all sorts of things if only the Doctors (and his wife) would let him.

We have to start with the basics. Internet access being an obvious one. I think we'd happily swap the (vintage) central heating for broadband, the latter being far more vital to basic survival, in our view.

We will doubtless give you all the gory details of the "project" as it develops. After IL-2, a spot of rewiring and replumbing will be childsplay. (You can quote me on that in a few months' time, when I may well be tempted to leave one Priory to stay at the other!)

Congrats on the op. We could even have crossed tracks. Some doc decided to stick a screw driver in my tit for a biopsy only to tell me a week later all was well. Tell that to my tit; which knew it was past its best and always has a sort of 'hanging depression' but even so, I'm glad to have it as a 'hanger on' rather than 'cut off' type of friend. Anyway, I realize this is a forum for Quent not my own hypochondria..so Webbs, are you around this Sun lunch or if not can you do here on 8 nov? The new house looks EVEN better in the pics, can't wait to see it xxx

So the internet has reached a little corner of 16th Century Rickmansworth! If you need any muscle around the house over the coming weeks then give me and the boys a shout. Q can direct from safe distance and suitably restrained.

Love to all,

Ben

Although I usually resist the urge to respond to the many fantastic blog entries, Quent has requested that I ban Julie from any further postings until his wound has healed well enough for him to laugh raucously. At least we presume the anonymous entry was Julie - recognised from the wit, not the sagging bosom, I hasten to add. ;o)

Wonderful news... all along the line... As you say, you'll have to hold back Quent on the jobs!
I'll have a look on Google Earth to check if you are hanging out the washing...
You are even more busy than us... so just slow down girl!
Speak to you soon

Quent can convalesce and keep occupied writing the change of address notices for posting ..... Glad everything's looking good. xxx

Great news on Quent's operation but really your lives are less operation overkill more operation overdrive !! Once again it is hard not to feel quite idle against your combined efforts.

However I do need to mention that your usually exemplary blog seems to have omitted a small fact about the new house. It is "quite close" to the Feathers pub, a hostelry with some significant scouting history. Well done all round.

Wow - sounds as though everything is going really well. I'm so pleased - and the house looks great. Let us know if you're up for visitors. I'm sure Isabella and Claudia would love to meet Oakley perhaps after half term?

Love
Jules, Jason and girls xxx
