Fundraising blow.

The fundraising team at Christie's are very upset today as their application to get their Icelandic bank money back has been turned down by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.

Although it doesn't involve any of the money we have raised (which is ringfenced for the Prof) it does affect £6.5m which would have gone to the research institute at the hospital. The money has been raised by the public, specifically for cancer research at the hospital. When The Christie was advised to invest there, the bank held the highest possible safety rating and offered the best interest rates.

To put it into context, £6.5 million is the equivalent of over 250 mammoth fundraising efforts, the size of the European Odyssey. And given that was an exceptional amount, it's probably more like 5,000+ lost fundraising activities.

The Manchester Evening News has started a petition. Please click here to sign it.

The new investment policy for Christie's fundraisers? Who knows - they aren't short of mattresses...

Great to read that positive news recently - absolutely delighted for you.

Also, terrible that all that money has just 'disappeared', i've signed the petition and will ask others to do so too.

All the best and see you sometime soon. Simon + bb etc.
