Thora who?
We saw Mr Jones yesterday and he confirmed he can cut out the new lesion in Quent's right lung. Apparently it is in a deeper, more awkward place so it definitely won't be keyhole surgery. He has to go into the back of the lung this time.
The operation, a thoracotomy, will involved "stretching" the ribs apart (how stretchy are ribs?) and the recovery will be longer and "more sore" than last time. (Or, as Wikipedia puts it, "post operative pain is universal and intense".)
We have to check in on Tuesday 10th Feb, with surgery on Wed 11th. Which means that in two weeks, Quent will be recovering on the intensive care unit. And Valentine's Day will be spent in hospital - again!
I don't have much more to add, so I shall leave you with another little thought from Wikipedia...
"Thoracotomies are thought to be one of the hardest surgical incisions to deal with post-op, because they are exquisitely painful and the pain can prevent the patient from breathing effectively, leading to atelectasis or pneumonia."
Or as Quent would say, "a walk in the park".

Not much you can say to respond to that update other than that hopefully Wikipedia is wrong! I wonder if somebody could invent some sort of 'painshare' scheme so we could all take a bit of it and spread the load.
Thinking of you. Jen x
Don't beleive everything you read on the internet... I only beleive what the Metro tells me ;-)
Lots of swear words came to mind reading that, so I can't publish my thoughts.
Valentines is an overrated waste of money anyway or have I been married too long.
Thinking of you all.
Love the O'Donovan's xxxx
Well, what sort of a walk in the park are we talking about?
I always knew that Wikipediacannot be trsuted for everything, but I can understand that this particular walk in the park may not be plain sailing....
OK then , all positive vibes to be saved for the 10th and the aftermath of the 10th, for full and not so wikipedia-ish recovery.
Love
Paula
We are thinking of you and sending all our love. Hope Quent doesn't have to be as stoical as he always is and that Wikepedia isn't always right. Love, The Shaws
Wikipedia will turn out to be exagerrating - have Faith and don't be believing everything you read - only ever believe the good bits! We'll be praying for you as always. With love Michele & Robert
