Silver Linings

We have been collecting silver linings ever since the cloud descended. We have found a surprising number, including

Clear bone and brain scans
Losing a bit of weight (Helen)
Having Quentin at home
Adding to my MP3 collection (Quentin)
Home-made soups and other delicious goodies delivered to our door
Lovefilm DVD rental
Hearing from people for the first time in ages
Babysitting credits - which we plan to cash in the New Year
Messages of love and support from family and friends

... and the availability of your own medium on which to post Christmas wishes when you run out of time on the Christmas cards!

Apologies to those who did not get cards - we are still thinking of you and hope everyone has a very happy Christmas and a healthy New Year.

Quentin, Oakley and I wish you clear blue skies in 2007, with huge silver linings around any clouds which may appear.

You guys - lovely to see you not once but twice yesterday. I hope you have a good Xmas and New Year with lots of R&R and a new year's resolution to see this unwelcome invader off. You have a key, so if your boiler does break down, just move in to mine until it's fixed! Lots of love and see you soon J & J xx

Quent I know it's us that are meant to be keeping your spirits up but I have to say that talking to you on the phone yesterday was the best christmas present that I could have so here's to 2007. Hope you all have a fab christmas and new year with plenty of family quality time. I will try to arrange some sort of get together in the new year for you and all your Ricky mates if your up for it!

Well the carrots, mince pie and milk are all on the fireplace ready let's just hope for a relatively decent nights sleep.

Happy christmas once again to you Helen and Oakley and all your blogging friends.

Helen and Quentin -- got your Christmas card and have read all the blogs (I think, anyway -- never been on a blog before unless the Guardian's over by over cricket counts). We've never met Quentin, but Helen, I know that you chose him, so I knew already that he had something about him. Well I now know from reading the blogs that that's a serious undercalling of things. I admire so much his courage in the face of this shattering news, and the day by day ups and downs, any one of which could be crippling for any normal human being. And Helen, your attitude and response to this -- you can be so proud of it.

I guess I am not supposed to write an essay. (I deduce this from the small block of space in which I am typing). I think I am posting on the topic of silver linings. So I will just do that then sign off.

For Quentin, the silver lining that jumps to mind is that he has you, Helen. One of the most important things in life must be the relationship you have with your partner -- and its strength is most tested by adversity. You've got adversity in spades, and the strength of your relationship seems to shine through.

Helen for you I think that the silver lining you most want is something to offer some hope for the long term, and the thing that captured my attention from one of the blogs was the bit about four new drugs in the area of kidney cancer in the last 2 years. The rate of progress in this area seems amazing which suggests that every month you both see through there is a better chance of some innovative recent treatment proving to be effective.

We are thinking of all three of your and praying that the next medical news on the site will be better than the last.

With all our love and support
Paul and Liz

Merry Christmas guys, and may next year bring hope, joy and all things great.
I have known you for so many years, Quent, and always see your face with a smile on it. You helped me through my health "issues" (is it really 14 years since the train accident?) and gave me strength. If there is ever anything I can do to help or support then do give me a call.
You both seem to be managing so well- I admire you.
Live your lives the way you want to, and deal with things as they come up- try not to worry about things that may never become reality. hard to say, and even harder to do, I know... My thoughts and love are with you always. Gillian, Renny & Euan

Merry Xmas to all of you!

Quentin, we are really happy to see that you have ventured beyond home and the medical environment.

I am sure that both your colleagues and the scouts have been so happy to see you back!

Big hug from Barcelona and let us definitely organise something to meet early in the 2007!
:-)

Besos!
