Trial run

Apologies to those who have been checking the blog, only to find I've been slacking of late. The truth is that we have little news and I have been trying to avoid putting up too many "please don't forget to sponsor Quent" posts. Because I know you've either done it or are just about to.

Quent continues to make a slow but steady recovery. He sleeps lots and washes little, rather like a teenager. He is still suffering with very itchy, dry skin and the water aggravates it. Even Quent's mother accepts cancer side effects as an excuse for not shaving and she's not easily persuaded on the subject.

I have noticed other side effects. Lifting floorboards is one. Threading wires under the floor is another. Cursing, a third. Replacing floorboards doesn't seem to feature, as tidying is tiring. Everybody knows that. What can I say? Quent wants to be useful. He tells me it's frustrating that he has so little energy and gets so little done. I see his point of view. No, really, I do. ;o)

We fled the crime scene and went to France for Easter. It was a dress rehearsal for the Odyssey. There was a funny noise coming from the engine soon after we set off and we ended up begging some mechanic to take a look on Easter Saturday. It was the wheel bearing and sounded horrid, but the mechanic seemed to think it should get us back to England before needing to be fixed. So, all in all quite a good test drive - aside the fact we were in our nearly new Volvo. If they can do as well round 12 countries in the £500 models, they'll be fine.

My dad has lent Quent his "car parts in 12 languages" book, which could be a godsend in a couple of weeks' time.

So, it just remains for me to say "please don't forget to sponsor Quent" (and a huge thank you to those who already have). A few good reasons to do it now are listed below. Read them before or after reaching for your credit card.

1. Quent has cancer and wants to give something back to the people who are saving his life.
2. The boys spent all Easter working on the cars in the cold, wet and snow.
3. The Prof is an amazing guy at the forefront of cancer research. Your money is going directly to the front-line.
4. It's such a madcap idea, they deserve to raise lots of money from it.
5. One third of us will get cancer. This money goes to make that a much less scary prospect.

Tikai, babu

Apparently, tickety-boo comes from the Hindi phrase "Tikai, babu" meaning "It's all right, Sir". Not many people know that.

Tikai babu in Ashbourne Grove - I hope tikai with you all too.

Have a great weekend.
