Milestones
Last week we went to Manchester for Quent's annual scan.
This was to be our second attempt at 'five years' clear'. In March 2014, we drove up hoping for a clear scan, five years after the resection on Quent's lung (Feb 2009). It wasn't to be. They found a nodule on the adrenal gland which turned out to be malignant and in May 2014 they removed the gland.
At the time, Prof said he thought it was not 'new' cancer, but a slow-growing (and until then undetectable) nodule which had been there from the start. He reassured us that he didn't expect more cancer to appear, once the adrenal gland was removed.
Prof was right. Of course. We hadn't doubted him.
Last week's scan was clear. A five year, momentous cancer milestone - and effectively ten years of no new cancer.
I am so proud of Quent for how he has approached his cancer journey - and so grateful to the teams at The Christie and Charing Cross Hospitals for saving his life.
At the weekend, Quent's niece, Yvonne, ran the Race for Life. She filled out the dedication slip they give you to stick on your back - and took the words right out of my mouth!
I realise that you probably don't have milestones in a 5km race, but it seemed fitting (and moving) nonetheless.
